Central Wisconsin Symphony OrchestraIce fishing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and Schubert? Biking, fishing, hiking and Handel? Central Wisconsin offers dynamic opportunities for its residents and vacationers, and the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra is one of its valuable resources. CWSO performed its first concert in 1948 in the auditorium at the Central State Teacher's College, now the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Today, the orchestra has 60 semi-professional members that perform four concerts per season. The musical talent is drawn from the local university, Suzuki Institute and surrounding community. The orchestra itself is quite unique. The repertoire includes traditional classical music, twentieth-century music and compositions written by area composers. During the 2005-2006 concert season, a piece written for ceramic horn, created by a local artist, was performed. Learn more about the Central Wisconsin Symphony at www.cwso.org. Look for the timpanist. He's an amazing musician (and I'm not just saying this because he's my husband!). Cynthia Wills, |
