There is no more exciting chamber ensemble than eighth blackbird. These are six superb and adventurous musicians who have been playing together for more than 10 years and it shows. They are exciting to watch. They know each other well, and with their music often memorized, it is easy to forget that they are not improvising. Their musical selections are fresh and their performances exude the genuine thrill they have making music together. They actively promote contemporary music and regularly commission new scores from composers like George Perle and Joseph Schwantner. They have four terrific CDs released and I would love to see more, many more.
